Reminder – Massachusetts PROTECT Act

This is a reminder that the Governor has signed into law H. 5620, the Massachusetts “PROTECT Act”. The law amends a number of provisions in the General Laws regarding compliance with and response to the activities of ICE. Relevant here is the addition of new G.L. c. 71, § 102, that contains a number of policies and procedures applicable to schools. The law requires that school districts adopt the required policies by the earlier of September 1, 2026 or the first day of school. On August 27, 2026 MASC published and circulated a new model Policy ACL. School districts should consider adapting and adopting such a policy.
